On your next trip to your trusted and local jeweler for a diamond haul, feel free to tap the in-store jewelry consultants or experts. Having them walk you through about your purchase will help you understand which kind and style suit your taste. If you have locked your eyes to an item that is somehow beyond your cost estimate, they can find you a piece that is almost identical that is within your budget. For example, instead of a piece of mined diamond with shocking price value, they could offer you a lab-grown diamond for a portion of the cost. There is a bit of a compromise in terms of how the diamond was produced but the alternative exhibits almost the same level of beauty.

With the help of the in-house experts, there are characteristics you should watch out for that will help you decide the perfect piece to pick.  During the diamond jewelry selection process, there are 4C’s of Diamond to consider namely -  Carat, Clarity, Color, and Cut. All these 4 characteristics contribute to make the stone more beautiful and stand out from others.

Cut

Cut grade is one of the most important aspects of a diamond, since this is where it is going to get the shine and sparkle. The way a diamond is cut affects its ability to transmit light allowing it to sparkle bright under adequate lighting. The cut also tells something about the artistry and the level of workmanship poured into the diamond. Going for a lower cut grade makes a diamond look dull and lifeless. A .90-carat diamond ring with a higher cut grade outshines a 1.0 carat with low cut grade. Getting the best cut allows the interaction with light that achieves the higher level of beauty of a diamond jewelry. Examples of these cut grades to choose from include Round Brilliant Cut, Cushion Cut, Princess Cut, Emerald and many more.

Carat

Carat Weight is the unit of measurement used for weighing diamonds. It is obviously a significant characteristic of a diamond as it also speaks of the item value. However, carat weight alone does not determine the value of a diamond. Other three diamond grade factors such as Color, Clarity, and Cut grades should be put into consideration. Carat weight can be expressed in whole numbers for example 2 carats or 1 carat and in points like 0.25 or 0.5.

Color

The diamond color evaluation relies on the absence of color in a diamond. A diamond is considered pure and perfect if it does not exhibit any traces of hue or discoloration. Color inspection takes a very well-trained eye and is done under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions and magnifying tools. The color grade starts from D as the clearest and goes all the way down Z with most yellow hue. You might want to pick a color ranging anywhere from J to G color range. You can figure out the color of a diamond from the bottom, since it is very hard to tell by inspecting it from the top. You might not be able to see any difference unless you really stare at it for a longer period of time under excellent lighting.

Clarity

Clarity tells about how flawless and gorgeous the diamond is. Understanding how a diamond is formed, a piece might have acquired some inclusions and blemishes along the process. The closer a diamond is to purity, the more it shows a higher level of clarity. Clarity cannot be seen by a naked eye, the reason a diamond should be inspected under magnification where you can see the flaws of a piece.
